Are you collaborating with otherĀ  people on a document? Do you want to be able to access your document from any web-connected device to be able to continue editing it? A good option in both those cases is to upload your document to Google Drive and let it convert to Google Docs.

Someone recently asked me why they can’t edit their file after uploading it to Google Drive. You can upload many different document types to Google Docs and have them convert to Google Docs format. Allowed formats are .doc, .docx, .docm .dot, .dotx, .dotm, .html, .txt, .rtf, .odt. If you upload a file of one of those types and can’t edit it in Google Docs, check your Settings.

There’s one setting that you need to enable in Google Drive to make sure that you can edit uploaded files without needing the extra step of manually converting them.
