Do you still dream? I don’t mean what happens while you’re asleep. I mean conscious dreams, those future outcomes that (directly or indirectly) motivate your daily actions.

I’ve been thinking about dreams a lot. About six months ago, I sat during a strategic planning meeting and drafted an objective about dreams. Others in the team ran with that idea and the concept of dreaming in learning made it into the strategic plan. Since then, I’ve been thinking about my dreams and passions.

As a child, I dreamed about my future. Then i got caught up in the day to day routine of life. Eight years ago, my financial advisor asked me to make a list of dreams. I remember the difficulty of that activity. I hadn’t articulated my dreams for a long time. Having to do that AND share it with a relative stranger was scary. I still have that list and I look at it off and on. But I’ve changed, my passions have evolved, so unsurprisingly, my dreams are different now. It’s still difficult for me to open myself to others and share those dreams, but I’m working on it because I believe that there is great power in the articulation of dreams.

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” – Henry David Thoreau

“Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.” – Karen Ravn

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
